The Product Will Speak For Itself

Funny how things work out.

Like many others, I’ve been blogging as a way to make products that I’ve built visible. Admittedly I could do a better job of describing how they work but I blame that on a software developer’s conceit, which is that the product will speak for itself. In a geek’s world that makes perfect sense but for the people I’d like to reach it may be a flawed argument.

Nonetheless, with a limited marketing budget, I have been working to get eyeballs to this site and so have learned a few things in the process. So it just strikes me as funny that I’d be asked to give a speech on that topic. So tomorrow (Friday Aug. 21) I’ll be part of the Blogging and Social Media event being held by the Colorado Association of Mortgage Brokers. It’s being held at Armbrust Real Estate Institute, 7100 E Belleview, Greenwood Village, CO from 9 – 11am if you’re interested in dropping by.

I’ll be talking about finding out what your customers want and giving them more of it by doing some analysis using free tools from Google. There’s a lot of stuff that I’ve learned the hard way which should make for an interesting talk. After all, who doesn’t like to avoid mistakes? And I’ve made many, most in the vein of “if you build it they will come”. I’m still waiting for a crush of downloads for the Twitter PageRank tool.

So if you want to find out how to identify where your customers are and how to reach them, either drop by the class or give me a call and I’d be happy to discuss it with you. Or maybe I’ll just write some software – that will speak for itself.
