One Minute Lead Manager

‘The One Minute Manager’, ‘The Sixty-Second Motivator’, ‘Getting Things Done’, ‘The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People’.

I should have named a previous post the One Minute Lead Manager. It would seem that ‘Increase Business In 5 Minutes A Day’ is more time than one would want to spend.

For some reason books about accomplishing things quickly are all the rage. Well, not really all the rage. The same has been true for quite some time. After all, ‘The One Minute Manager’ has been available since 1982.

So are we reading these books to better manage our time? Or have we simply concluded that fighting distractions is futile and we’ll use strategies to accomplish what we need to do in the time we have available?

My guess is the latter.

Consider this – the average attention span is now the time between television commercials. Let’s call it somewhere around 11 minutes. Which means if you work an 8 hour day (who works an 8 hour day anymore?) you’re probably being distracted 44 times a day.

And that’s not even considering distractions out of your control. It’s no wonder we feel that we can’t get things done.
