As may have been mentioned before, I’m more of an software analyst-slash-programmer than a web designer (it was mentioned before but I’m not going to tell you which post – no point in highlighting imperfection). So I take notice when stumbling across articles that shed some light on the issues that other web designers struggle with, like browser incompatibilities among other things.
Here are a couple of web development articles that you might find interesting. I did.
Reset CSS
Trying to get the same look on all browsers absolutely drives me crazy, having to fire up at least two different computers to test. Argh! I have some templates that I use to create a base style but the following tools are much more complete. I’ll be using these to provide some starting consistency for CSS from now on: Eric Meyer’s CSS Tools and Yahoo’s UI Library.
Tips and Tricks
These are a little old but still popular. Of course I just came across them – man how big is the web? Yongfook has a well written article on 10 Dirty Little Web Development Tricks that led to the exploration of the above css reset and also to a tip for clearing floats from orderedlist.com.
Social Bookmarking
All of this started when I went to del.icio.us to find some interesting RSS links to use with ROME. I knew about delicious but hadn’t used it before because I was afraid I would get distracted and chase shiny things. And waste a morning.
If you’re anything like me then my advice would be to stay away from anything that says social in it. You may end up finding the things that interest everyone interest you as well. And you’ll waste a morning. Like this morning.
