Networking at CAMB Speaker Series

This post originally was to be part of the other on the CAMB activities of the day. But it occured to me that a request for comments would be difficult if the topics were as scrambled as my thoughts are. So herewith, a separate topic.

Today was the first CAMB Luncheon Speaker Series I attended. Not sure if the turnout was more or less than usually show up, but there was a good crowd of people there. And it was a fun environment to be in – made me forget for a moment how rough the market is for mortgage brokers these days. I might put it on my calendar for next month if the speakers they have lined up are as good as today’s speaker.

Actually, I only caught the last 20 minutes or so of Karen Susman’s Networking presentation but it was lots of fun. When was the last time you heard that about a presentation on networking? There was even a sing-a-long, if you can believe that! I got a chance to speak with her afterwards and got a few tips that maybe I’ll be able to share in a later post. Here’s an opening line to start: “What brings you here?”. Tell me dear reader, what brings you here?

I got a chance to catch up with a few folks that I missed at CAMB’s 25th Anniversay convention held a few weeks ago. Hilarie Kavanagh held a seminar that showed how to increase wealth (which I definitely could use) but it was opposite another seminar that I needed to attend. So I got to chat with her a little today and got more information on what they’re doing. Looks like an interesting way to achieve your financial goals.

Likewise, I missed Jason Berman’s seminar on using technology to help build your business but caught up with him today. Good ideas on what direction to take the CAMB website. Didn’t realize that he was past President of Colorado Association of Mortgage Brokers so I’m excited that Reaffinity has a kindred spirit to work with in doing something for CAMB.

So I guess the theme of the day was networking – from the presentation to the opportunities afterwards. And even though I may not be great at it, I can appreciate the value in participating. If you’re not attending these then you’re missing a great opportunity to expand your contacts and your business.
